What makes us human? What makes us free?

by RLM 7/29/2008 7:11:00 PM

“The glory of God is a human being fully alive.”  Ireneus

Because I have been speaking in so many different cultures and trying to understand what I’m seeing, it inevitably leads me to reflect on my own American culture and identity. This summer I read David McCullough’s book John Adams and George Marsden’s biography Jonathon Edwards. It has been a fascinating glimpse into American culture before, during and after the Revolution.

When Edwards wrote the biography, The Life of David Brainard, about the selfless and passionate missionary to Native Americans, it became one of the most popular American literary works in the 18th century. Edwards hoped it would be received as a basis for understanding what human identity was truly meant to be, from God’s perspective. More...

Recent Trip To Northern Ireland

by RLM 7/18/2008 12:11:00 PM

How we loved being in Northern Ireland again! The fun and warm-heartedness of the Irish, their delightful accents that finishe most sentences tilting upwards, and the affectionate way they communicate, as in “Ah Becky, ‘tis grand seeing you! Could I give you a wee cuddle then?”More...

What is the difference between Religion and the Gospel?

by RLM 5/10/2008 5:27:00 PM

I’ve often been asked by both skeptics and even believers:  What makes the gospel unique? How is the Christian gospel different from other religions?”  This is a big question but I want to share an adapted piece written by Tim Keller, an American minister at Redeemer Presbyterian in New York City, where many seekers and skeptics flock on Sunday mornings. New Seeker Study started in Hungary!

by RLM 5/5/2008 3:03:00 PM

I just received a very encouraging email from a student in Hungary who came to the IFES conference in Linz, Austria where I addressed University students from all over Europe. I also gave a track on Seeker Bible Study – and why Seeker Studies are such a  powerful tool for reaching our postmodern secular culture today.  He was the only Hungarian in my track but God is using him in powerful ways. He started his Seeker Study in a Budapest restaurant last week and 5 nonbelievers came. They used my Seeker Study on John (Looking at the Life of Jesus) and it looks like a 6th seeker will join them next week.

I’m including part of his email to me. You will be blessed! May God use this to inspire you to do the same!  More...

Just back from Linz, Austria!

by RLM 4/10/2008 5:53:00 PM

We are back from the conference in Austria and it was a spectacular trip! I gave 3 plenary addresses and led a 3 session Track on Seeker Bible Study.

Some highlights of the trip:

The students!: The best part for us was getting to know the students themselves! There were 2,000 University students from every single country in Europe (except Iceland). 40 countries were represented! It’s hard to describe these glimpses of Heaven. You hear testimonies that are thrilling - as well as stories of the persecution and pain involved in being a witness to Jesus – yet there is nothing that deflects from their passionate devotion to God. Even with all the vast cultural differences we saw the united, passionate and focused love for the Lord and His gospel. What an encouragement! More...

Recent Seeker Bible Study News

by RLM 3/14/2008 3:20:00 PM

Dear friends,

Last week I did a live webcast (via SKYPE) from my office to DUMC – the church that hosted the Salt Shaker Conference last fall in Malaysia.   It was incredible to see believers, whom Dick and I have come to dearly love, from half way around the world! The purpose of the webcast was so I could teach, hear testimonies and answer questions from those who are now leading Seeker Bible studies. Amazing to think this could take place for an hour and a half and it was free!!! More...

Welcome to the Seeker Study Forum

by RLM 3/11/2008 2:01:00 PM

When we started Salt Shaker Ministries five years ago we had no idea that the Lord would open so many opportunities to lead Salt Shaker Conferences internationally. We have been enormously encouraged by the number of Seeker Bible studies that have started around the world. As a result, we are not only hearing encouraging testimonies but I’m also being asked perceptive questions. More...
